Traps
The i of the stem becomes y before an ending that is pronounced: voyons, voyez, voyais, voyions.Spelling
The silent endings keep the i: vois, voit, voient. Writing nous voions or vous voiez is the usual slip.

Regarder is to look at something on purpose, while voir is to see what comes into view. You can look and still not see anything.

Rencontrer is to meet someone for the first time, while voir is to see someone you already know or to go and consult a professional.
J'ai rencontré ma nouvelle voisine hier, et je vais la voir demain.
