Conditionnel passé and si clauses
Each sentence has one gap and two real forms of the same verb — Si j'______ su… with avais or aurais. Pick the one French needs. The completed sentence and the rule, in English and Punjabi, appear after you answer.

Which form fills the gap?

Why this trips people up
Si j'aurais su is the single most corrected sentence in French, and plenty of native speakers say it. The rule has no equivalent in English, where "if I would have known" is at worst informal: in French the conditional is barred from the si half outright. The hypothesis takes the plus-que-parfait (si j'avais su) or the imparfait (si j'avais le temps), and the conditional goes in the other half, every time.
Two further things cost marks once that is fixed. The conditionnel passé is a compound tense, so it chooses between avoir and être like the passé composé — j'aurais pris but je serais venu, and a pronominal verb is always être (il se serait levé, never il s'aurait levé). And a past condition does not always give a past result: if the consequence is still true now, the result half goes into the present conditional — si j'avais accepté ce poste, je serais riche aujourd'hui. That mixed pattern is what separates a B2 answer from a B1 one.
