This Privacy Policy explains how FrenchPunjabi ("we", "us") handles information when you visit frenchpunjabi.com.

Information we collect

We do not require you to create an account, and there is nothing to sign up for. You can read every lesson, use every tool and play every practice game without giving us any information at all. If you email us, we hold that email only to reply to you and to check any correction you reported; it is not added to a mailing list.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to understand which lessons are useful — for example which pages are visited and how people arrive at them. Google Analytics sets its own cookies and processes this data under Google's privacy policy. In the EEA, the UK, Switzerland and Québec it only loads after you accept cookies.

Advertising and cookies

This site is supported by display advertising. Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings. Where required by law, we request consent before non-essential cookies are set.

We set one cookie of our own, fp_geo, holding only a two-value flag (eu or other) derived from which country — and in Canada, which province — your request appears to come from. eu means the consent request above applies to you: in the EEA, the UK, Switzerland and Québec. It exists solely to make that decision, holds no other information about you, and expires after 7 days.

Data stored in your browser

Some features remember things locally using your browser's localStorage. This data stays on your own device — it is never transmitted to us or to anyone else, and we cannot read it. We store ten kinds of value, all prefixed fp_:

• fp_consent — whether you accepted or declined non-essential cookies, so the banner does not ask again on every page.
• fp_lang — whether you last read lessons in Punjabi, English or Hindi, so the language switch remembers your preference.
• fp_drill_… — your progress in the practice games: which words you have answered correctly, the date each word last moved up a level (a word counts as learned only once you have got it right on two different days), your current and best streak, and the date you last played. No personal information is involved, so this is not covered by the consent banner.
• fp_path_… — which lessons you have ticked off on a learning pathway. Practice steps are not stored here; they are worked out from your fp_drill_… progress instead.
• fp_lessons — on the lesson index: which lessons you have opened and which you have ticked as done, the last lesson you opened (for the Continue card) and the level tab you last had open.
• fp_streak — how many days in a row you have finished a practice session, and the date of the most recent one.
• fp_verb_gloss — on the verb conjugation pages: whether you chose to see example translations in Punjabi, English or both.
• fp_hide_en_gloss — whether you chose to hide the English translation in the practice games until you answer, so the choice carries from one game to the next.
• fp_deck_… — which words are in each flashcard deck (a built-in topic or one you name yourself) and your spaced-repetition progress in it: which box each word is in and when it's next due.
• fp_words — the words you save to My words on the flashcards page: each French word, the meaning you kept for it, an optional Punjabi meaning and gender, where the meaning came from, and the date you added it.

Looking up a word. When you look up a word for My words, we first check our own word bank and verb tables, which happens entirely in your browser. Only if neither has the word is it sent to Wiktionary (run by the Wikimedia Foundation) to fetch an English meaning. What is sent is that one word, and only when you press Look up — nothing you type is sent while you are typing, and nothing else about you is attached beyond what any web request carries, such as your IP address. Wikimedia's own privacy policy applies to that request.

None of these identify you, so none of them are covered by the consent banner. You can erase all of it at any time by clearing site data for frenchpunjabi.com in your browser settings; each practice game has its own "Reset my progress" button and each pathway has a "Clear my ticks" button. Clearing it loses your saved progress but breaks nothing.

The practice dashboard also lets you download your fp_drill_…, fp_path_…, fp_deck_…, fp_words, fp_lessons and fp_streak values as a JSON file, and restore them later — on this device or another one. That file is generated and read entirely in your browser; it is never uploaded anywhere, including to us.

Your choices

You can control cookies through your browser settings and, where the consent request applies, through our consent banner — the Cookie settings link at the foot of every page reopens it, so you can change or withdraw your choice at any time without clearing your learning progress. You may ask us to delete any email you have sent us by writing to [email protected].
