ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਦਾ 'ਪੀਣਾ' ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਇੱਕੋ ਧਾਤੂ 'ਪੀ-' ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪੀਂਦਾ, ਪੀਤਾ, ਪੀਵਾਂਗਾ), ਇਸ ਲਈ ਅਸੀਂ ਇੱਕ ਹੀ ਰੂਪ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ। ਫ਼ਰਾਂਸੀਸੀ boire ਵਿੱਚ ਤਿੰਨ ਰੂਪ ਹਨ (boi-, buv-, boiv-) ਤੇ ਇਹ ਆਦਤ ਇੱਥੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੱਲਦੀ। ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੂਪ ਤੇ ਸਿਗਰਟ ਵੀ 'ਪੀਤੇ' ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਫ਼ਰਾਂਸੀਸੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੂਪ ਲਈ manger ਤੇ ਸਿਗਰਟ ਲਈ fumer ਵਰਤਦੇ ਹਨ।

Traps
Three stems share one verb: boi- in the singular (bois, boit), buv- for nous and vous (buvons, buvez) and boiv- for ils (boivent).Stem
The imparfait uses buv- (buvais) and the futur simple uses boir- (boirai). A learner who writes boivons or buvrai has mixed two of them.

The participle is bu, one short syllable with no -oi- or -v-: j'ai bu.Stem
Boi, boivé and buvé are all wrong. The feminine and plural are written only when a direct object comes before the verb: l'eau que j'ai bue.

Boire is for liquids you drink from a glass or a cup. Soup is eaten with a spoon, so French says manger la soupe, even where Punjabi speaks of drinking soup.

Prendre is the neutral word for ordering or taking something: prendre un café, prendre ses médicaments. You do not boire a pill, and boire un verre on its own, with no d'eau after it, means to have a drink with someone.
Je prends mes médicaments le matin, avec un grand verre d'eau.
