Traps

The m of the stem disappears in the three singular persons (dors, dors, dort) and comes back in the plural (dormons, dormez, dorment).Stem

The imparfait and the futur simple keep the full stem: dormais, dormirai.

Don’t confuse withs'endormir

Dormir is the state of being asleep, s'endormir is the moment of falling asleep, and it is pronominal, so its passé composé takes être.

Je me suis endormi devant la télé, alors j'ai dormi sur le canapé.

ਮੈਂ ਟੀਵੀ ਅੱਗੇ ਸੌਂ ਗਿਆ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਸੋਫ਼ੇ 'ਤੇ ਹੀ ਸੁੱਤਾ ਰਿਹਾ।

Don’t confuse withse coucher

Se coucher is going to bed, which can happen long before you sleep. Dormir only starts when you are actually asleep.

Je me couche à onze heures, mais je ne dors pas avant minuit.
