Traps
The present has three spellings of the stem: apprend- for je, tu and il (apprends, apprend), appren- for nous and vous (apprenons, apprenez), and apprenn- for ils (apprennent).Stem
The futur simple keeps the d in every person (apprendrai, apprendrons), because it is built on the infinitive, not on the nous stem.

Comprendre and prendre have one, so it is easy to write aprendre by mistake.

The participle is appris, not apprendu.Agreement
It agrees with a direct object placed before the verb: la leçon qu'elle a apprise, la nouvelle qu'elle nous a apprise. The person taught is an indirect object after à, so nous and m' never trigger agreement.

J'ai appris à nager says the learning is done: I learned to swim.Meaning
J'apprenais à nager says it was under way: I was learning to swim. With que, j'ai appris que means I found out that.

Don’t confuse withétudier →
Étudier is the time you spend working at something; apprendre is what you end up knowing. You can étudier for two hours and still not have appris the verbs.
J'étudie deux heures par jour, mais je n'ai pas encore appris tous les verbes.

Don’t confuse withenseigner
Enseigner is the verb for teaching as a job or a school subject; apprendre à quelqu'un à + infinitive is showing one person a skill.
Elle enseigne les mathématiques au secondaire et elle apprend à son fils à nager.
