Traps

The last v of the stem (suiv-) drops in the three singular persons (suis, suis, suit) and returns in the plural (suivons, suivez, suivent).Stem

The imparfait and the futur simple keep it: suivais, suivrai.

After it, something you follow or take (un cours, un régime, ce camion) means suivre, while a word that describes you (an adjective, a job, a place, un homme) means être: je suis un cours, but je suis étudiant, je suis un homme.

Both give je suis. Suivre has an object that can be followed or taken (un cours, le GPS, un régime), être is followed by an adjective, a profession, a place or a noun that describes you.

Je suis étudiante, et je suis des cours du soir.

ਮੈਂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣ ਹਾਂ, ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਸ਼ਾਮ ਦੀਆਂ ਜਮਾਤਾਂ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹਾਂ।

Don’t confuse withassister

Suivre un cours means taking a course over time, while assister à is being present at one event: a lecture, a meeting, a wedding.

J'assiste à la réunion de demain, mais je suis la formation toute la semaine.
