A thing you forget comes straight after oublier; an action you forget to do takes de first: oublier son sac, oublier de fermer la porte.
Keep the everyday reminder as one block: N'oubliez pas de... The de stays with the verb in every tense: j'ai oublié de, j'oubliais de.

In speech they are barely different from the present (oublions, oubliez), so in writing the double i is what marks the past. The futur keeps the infinitive's e, which is not pronounced: oublierai, never oublirai.

Laisser only says that the thing stayed behind, on purpose or not. Oublier says that it slipped your mind.
