Now, and habits. cours covers both "I run" and "I am runing" — French has no separate continuous form.
A completed past action. avoir conjugates and couru does not — ai couru.
An ongoing or habitual past. Built on the nous-present stem, so courons gives you courais.
About to happen. aller conjugates; courir never moves — the easier future to produce under pressure.
Will happen. Built on courr- — not the infinitive courir. The conditional reuses this stem.
What this table tells you about courir
The past participle is couru, and it takes avoir in the passé composé — so it never changes shape, whoever the subject is. No agreement to remember here.
The futur simple is built on courr-, which is not the infinitive courir. This stem has to be learned, and it is the same one the conditional uses later.
In both the present and the imparfait, je, tu, il/elle and ils/elles are one sound: cours, court, courent — indistinguishable spoken. Only nous and vous carry an audible ending.
The imparfait is built on the nous-present stem, so once you know courons you already know courais, courait and couraient. Futur proche keeps courir untouched.
