Grammar Spotlight
- #12 depuis · #6 pendant · #20 pour — three different “time” prepositions. In #12, “travaille depuis cinq ans” is present tense: the job began five years ago and is still going, so depuis. In #6, “pendant le trajet” means during the journey (a span of time), not a starting point, so pendant. In #20, “je vais rester… pour longtemps” is an intended future duration (futur proche), so pour, not depuis.
- #4 au · #8 au — the contraction. à + le = au, giving “au travail” and “au bureau”. You never write “à le”.
- #18 chez. “rentrer chez elle” = to go back to her own home/place. Use chez for a person’s home or place, not à.
- #2 à Toronto · #5 en métro. Cities take à (à Toronto), but travelling inside a vehicle takes en (en métro, en bus, en voiture) — though on foot it is à pied.
